Description
Handle freight on docks and in warehouses by loading, unloading, moving, and staging goods; verify paperwork and counts, label and secure shipments, operate material-handling equipment, and maintain a safe, organized work area.
- • Read bills of lading, manifests, and work orders to determine loads and equipment needs.
- • Load and unload trailers, containers, and railcars by hand or using pallet jacks, hand trucks, or forklifts.
- • Move freight between storage, staging areas, and loading docks.
- • Sort and stage freight by destination or stop sequence.
- • Label freight and containers with barcode tags or other identifiers.
- • Scan freight and update counts, weights, and locations in warehouse systems.
- • Verify counts, seal numbers, and condition against documents; report discrepancies.
- • Wrap, strap, and re-pack freight; replace damaged packaging as needed.
- • Install load bars, dunnage, padding, or straps to secure shipments.
- • Assemble or repair pallets and crates using hand tools.
- • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, dock plates, and liftgates to position loads.
- • Maintain clean, organized, and safe docks and storage areas; follow OSHA procedures.
- • Communicate with drivers, dispatch, and supervisors to coordinate pickups and deliveries.
