Sell chemical reagents, active pharmaceutical ingredients, laboratory supplies, and pharmaceutical products for wholesalers or manufacturers to hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, and life-science companies. Requires applied knowledge of chemistry, pharmacology, product handling, and regulatory compliance (e.g., USP, cGMP, FDA/DEA), typically supported by at least two years of postsecondary education.
- • Answer pharmacists', clinicians', and procurement teams' questions about products, pricing, availability, or credit terms.
- • Provide quotes, credit terms, tenders, or GPO contract specifications.
- • Highlight clinical and technical features based on customer needs and product indications, stability, and compatibility.
- • Negotiate prices or terms of sales or distribution agreements.
- • Maintain CRM, sample accountability, and required compliance records.
- • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and medical affairs to align strategies and messaging.
- • Prepare approved clinical and technical presentations on formulations, applications, and use cases.
- • Provide ongoing technical support on labeled use, handling, compounding, and storage using approved resources.
- • Communicate delivery schedules, cold-chain requirements, service terms, warranties, and backorder updates.
- • Visit hospitals, pharmacies, labs, and manufacturers to assess needs and promote products.
- • Complete expense reports, sales reports, and other required documentation.
- • Provide feedback to R&D and product teams on formulation, packaging, or service improvements.
- • Coordinate installation, qualification, or validation of instruments or dispensing equipment when applicable.
- • Model total cost of ownership and savings from generics, alternate APIs, bulk chemicals, or equipment.
- • Consult with quality, regulatory, or technical specialists to resolve product issues.
- • Manage compliant distribution of samples, SDS, and approved promotional and educational materials.
- • Audit shelf presence and formulary status to track product performance.
- • Advise on safe handling, hazardous waste disposal, and SDS-guided spill response.
- • Present information on environmental impact, green chemistry options, and sustainability initiatives.
- • Promote environmentally preferred solvents, reagents, and compliant packaging.
- • Prepare and submit sales contracts and purchase orders.
- • Contact new or existing customers to discuss how specific products or services meet their needs.
- • Assist customers in selecting products based on needs, specifications, and applicable regulations (USP, cGMP, FDA/DEA).
- • Verify deliveries meet production, patient care, or clinical trial timelines.
- • Identify prospects via directories, referrals, and industry events (e.g., AAPS, CPhI, ASHP).
- • Advise on product selection and process improvements to enhance yield, quality, or compliance.
- • Study Prescribing Information (PI), SDS, Certificates of Analysis (COA), and technical dossiers for new products.
- • Attend industry meetings and monitor FDA and USP updates, market trends, and competitor activity.
- • Sell service plans, calibration and validation services, and supply agreements.
- • Demonstrate instruments, compounding equipment, or lab workflows in accordance with compliance policies.
- • Launch targeted sales campaigns to meet quota and growth objectives.
- • Verify accuracy of bills of materials, formulations, and order details.
- • Verify customer credit ratings and account standing.
