Description
Directly supervise and coordinate shipping operations, staff, and outbound material movement to ensure accurate, timely, cost-effective, and compliant shipments.
  • • Plan shipping schedules and assign dock, packing, and staging duties to meet order cutoffs and volume spikes.
  • • Collaborate with warehouse, customer service, and carriers to resolve shipping issues.
  • • Review pick, pack, and load activities during and after processing to ensure accuracy and condition.
  • • Transmit and explain shipping orders, priorities, and special handling requirements.
  • • Verify items, quantities, lot or serial numbers, and packaging against orders and shipping documents.
  • • Notify stakeholders of shipped items, delays, damages, or exceptions.
  • • Plan palletization and trailer loading sequences for route, weight, and cube optimization.
  • • Evaluate shipping team performance and complete appraisals.
  • • Assist with complex shipments and perform hands-on packing, labeling, or loading as needed.
  • • Maintain shipping records, BOLs, manifests, EDI or scan logs, and KPIs; approve time and labor entries.
  • • Hold shift meetings on safety, quality, and service updates.
  • • Coach employees on work practices, growth, and career development.
  • • Inspect shipping equipment - pallet jacks, forklifts, stretch wrappers, and scales - for wear and compliance.
  • • Address personnel problems and escalate complex cases to management or HR when needed.
  • • Recommend promotions, transfers, recognition, or disciplinary actions.
  • • Assess training needs and provide instruction on WMS, scanners, packaging, and carrier systems.
  • • Schedule pickups and select carriers, service levels, and modes to meet delivery requirements.
  • • Ensure compliance with export, hazmat, and carrier requirements and prepare required documentation.
  • • Estimate labor, materials, and dock capacity needed for upcoming waves or projects.
  • • Assist with budget tracking, freight audits, chargeback prevention, and policy development.
  • • Inspect shipping docks and staging areas for maintenance and housekeeping needs.
  • • Participate in hiring by screening, interviewing, and recommending shipping staff.
  • • Monitor and reorder shipping supplies such as cartons, dunnage, tape, labels, and pallets.
  • • Enforce safety procedures, PPE use, equipment lockout, and OSHA or DOT compliance in the shipping area.
