Description
Directly supervise and coordinate garbage and recycling collection crews, routes, and equipment to ensure safe, timely, and compliant solid waste services.
- • Plan collection schedules, routes, and crew assignments to match service demands and seasonal fluctuations.
- • Collaborate with drivers, helpers, dispatch, and facility managers to resolve service issues.
- • Inspect routes and completed pickups to verify timely, complete, and compliant collection.
- • Communicate route sheets and work orders to collection crews and clarify instructions.
- • Verify waste types, container sizes, and set-out limits against service orders and regulations.
- • Notify dispatch, customer service, or municipal contacts of missed stops, contaminated loads, or blocked access.
- • Determine loading and tip sequence to maximize truck capacity and meet transfer station or landfill hours.
- • Evaluate crew performance and complete appraisals and ride-alongs.
- • Assist crews by driving, operating loaders, or handling difficult pickups when needed.
- • Lead tailgate meetings on safety, route changes, weather, and service updates.
- • Coach and counsel employees on work practices, conduct, and career development.
- • Inspect trucks, compactors, lifts, and PPE for condition and compliance; schedule maintenance.
- • Address personnel complaints and conflicts or escalate as required.
- • Recommend promotions, transfers, recognition, or corrective actions.
- • Identify training needs and arrange instruction on CDL skills, equipment operation, PPE, and hazard recognition.
- • Coordinate tipping schedules, transfer logistics, and recycling drop-offs.
- • Provide quotes for bulk pickups, special events, or extra services.
- • Estimate staffing, vehicle hours, and disposal capacity for routes and projects.
- • Assist with budgeting, cost tracking, route optimization, and policy development.
- • Inspect alleys, collection sites, and container locations for access issues or container repairs.
- • Participate in recruiting and hiring by screening, interviewing, and selection.
- • Manage inventory and order containers, lids, carts, PPE, and vehicle supplies.
- • Enforce safety procedures for traffic control, backing, sharps, and hazardous materials.
- • Maintain records for timekeeping, route productivity, tonnage, incidents, and regulatory reports.
