Supervise and coordinate a material handling crew performing loading, unloading, staging, and movement of goods to meet safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
- • Plan crew schedules, shifts, and assignments to meet inbound and outbound demand.
- • Coordinate with shipping, receiving, and operations to resolve work-related issues.
- • Monitor work during execution and on completion to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- • Issue, clarify, and prioritize work orders, pick lists, and loading instructions.
- • Verify materials loaded or unloaded against work orders, bills of lading, or WMS data.
- • Notify shipping, inventory control, or management of loads completed, variances, or issues.
- • Determine safe and efficient loading and unloading sequences and trailer placement.
- • Evaluate employee performance and complete performance reviews.
- • Assist crews by operating material handling equipment or performing complex tasks as needed.
- • Maintain records such as timekeeping, productivity, equipment checks, and inspection logs.
- • Lead safety and shift huddles; communicate policy updates and process changes.
- • Coach and counsel employees on work practices, safety, and career development.
- • Inspect forklifts, pallet jacks, docks, and rigging for wear and compliance; escalate maintenance needs.
- • Address personnel concerns and minor grievances; escalate when necessary.
- • Recommend promotions, transfers, scheduling changes, or disciplinary actions.
- • Identify training needs and arrange or deliver instruction on SOPs and equipment.
- • Plan shipment timing, dock appointments, and transportation modes with logistics partners.
- • Estimate labor, equipment, and time required for projects or special loads.
- • Support budgeting and policy development by tracking costs, productivity, and resource needs.
- • Inspect work areas and staging zones to assess repairs, housekeeping, or layout improvements.
- • Participate in recruiting and hiring through screening, interviewing, and recommendations.
- • Manage inventory of supplies, pallets, and packaging; reorder as required.
- • Enforce and improve safety procedures; ensure PPE and guarding are in place.
