Description
Coordinate and expedite the assignment and movement of vehicles, drivers, and materials to meet delivery or service schedules. Duties include reviewing and distributing dispatch and route schedules; communicating with drivers and supervisors to monitor job status and completion times; and compiling logs and reports on runs, equipment availability, costs, delays, and service or delivery issues.
- • Verify dispatch tickets, load sheets, and route plans for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with procedures.
- • Review service orders, delivery schedules, and staffing rosters to determine driver, vehicle, and load priorities.
- • Confer with operations supervisors, warehouse staff, and drivers to assess status and discuss needed changes.
- • Revise dispatch and route schedules due to traffic, weather, breakdowns, cancellations, or capacity constraints, coordinating with management and operations.
- • Coordinate pickups and deliveries with vendors and customers to resolve issues and eliminate delays.
- • Record dispatch data, including routes run, stops completed, miles, fuel, and delivery or service times.
- • Requisition and track dispatch-related supplies and equipment, such as fuel cards, handhelds, and shipping materials.
- • Calculate route times, loads, driver hours, and trip costs using maps, GPS, and dispatch software.
- • Distribute dispatch schedules, route sheets, and work orders to drivers and crews.
- • Compile status information on job progress, vehicle availability, load inventories, and customer requirements for reporting.
- • Arrange transfers, cross-docks, or courier runs to expedite urgent deliveries and meet service windows.
- • Contact carriers, vendors, and customers to verify pickup, delivery, and special handling details.
- • Maintain files, including driver logs, bills of lading, delivery receipts, and cost reports.
- • Plan dispatch commitments and timetables for routes or service calls using order volumes and forecasts.
- • Prepare route instructions, stop locations, equipment and load requirements, crew counts, and cost estimates.
- • Prepare documentation for transportation moves, driver schedules, and maintenance or repair orders.
- • Document causes of delays or route changes and update ETAs, costs, and customer notifications.
