Description
Arrange and manage freight transportation between shippers and carriers. Secure capacity, negotiate rates, schedule pickups and deliveries, and prepare shipping documents. Track loads from tender to delivery, ensure regulatory and insurance compliance, resolve issues, and manage billing and settlements.
- • Negotiate rates and secure capacity with motor carriers and other transport providers.
- • Advise shippers on modes, service levels, transit times, and payment terms.
- • Determine shipment method and generate load tenders, bills of lading, rate confirmations, and invoices.
- • Quote lanes and accessorials; record shipment weights, dimensions, and costs to calculate margins.
- • Enter and update load details, documents, and statuses in a TMS and customer portals.
- • Source trucks using carrier networks and load boards; match capacity to shipper demand.
- • Dispatch carriers with pickup, delivery, and site requirements; confirm appointments.
- • Track and trace loads proactively; provide ETAs and exception notifications.
- • Trace delayed or missing shipments and coordinate recovery or reconsignment.
- • Verify shipment details against orders and documents; resolve discrepancies.
- • Ensure carriers meet safety, authority, and insurance requirements; maintain certificates and W-9s.
- • Arrange insurance certificates and additional cargo coverage when required.
- • Communicate special handling, temperature control, hazmat, or oversize requirements to carriers.
- • Arrange accessorial services such as liftgate, inside delivery, residential service, or driver assist.
- • Plan routes and transit based on constraints, weight limits, and service commitments.
- • Coordinate dock appointments with shipping and receiving locations to meet schedules.
- • Maintain accurate records of quotes, loads, communications, and documents for compliance.
- • Prepare and transmit EDI/API load tenders, status updates, and delivery confirmations.
- • Review cross-border or export documentation and coordinate with customs brokers when applicable.
- • Manage billing, collections, and carrier settlements; reconcile accessorial charges.
- • Investigate OS&D issues and assist with freight damage or loss claims.
- • Monitor market conditions and lane pricing to optimize margins and service.
- • Build and maintain relationships with shippers and carriers to secure repeat business.
- • Arrange assistance for breakdowns or repower solutions to keep freight moving.
