Description
Coordinate and expedite the movement of inbound and outbound cargo at airline and logistics terminals. Receive customer orders, arrange pickups and deliveries to loading areas or aircraft, and oversee handling and routing. Prepare and verify airway bills, bills of lading, and related documents, determining charges, tariffs, and compliance requirements.
  • • Negotiate and arrange transport of cargo with carriers and forwarders.
  • • Determine mode of shipment and prepare airway bills, bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents.
  • • Estimate freight rates, surcharges, and duties; record shipment costs and weights.
  • • Enter shipment details into systems or scan bar codes to capture data.
  • • Retrieve stored cargo and trace delayed or missing shipments as needed.
  • • Pack or re-pack goods for shipment using staplers, strapping machines, and hammers.
  • • Direct trucks to docks or marshaling areas and assist with safe loading and unloading.
  • • Inspect, count, and verify received items against documents; record shortages and reject damaged goods.
  • • Install straps, braces, and padding to secure loads and prevent damage.
  • • Maintain accurate records of all cargo shipped, received, and stored.
  • • Coordinate and oversee workers engaged in packing, labeling, and shipping.
  • • Arrange cargo insurance coverage when required.
  • • Direct or participate in cargo loading to ensure completeness and proper weight distribution.
  • • Open containers and unwrap contents using appropriate hand tools.
  • • Attach labels, identification codes, and handling instructions to shipments.
  • • Route cargo to earliest available flight or to designated storage using forklifts, hand trucks, or other equipment.
  • • Maintain adequate supplies of packing and labeling materials.
  • • Assemble shipping containers or crates for oversized or special items.
  • • Track and report shipment status from pickup through final delivery.
  • • Notify consignees or customers of cargo arrival and arrange final delivery.
  • • Review import/export documents and apply tariff codes to classify goods.
  • • Prepare and transmit cargo manifests, recording weights, pieces, and special handling requirements.
  • • Contact vendors, carriers, or claims departments to resolve shipment issues or arrange repairs.
  • • Advise customers on shipping options, documentation, and payment methods.
