Plan and implement land use, zoning, housing, transportation, and infrastructure strategies for cities and regions to guide sustainable, equitable development.
  • • Draft and administer land use, zoning, housing, and transportation plans and policies.
  • • Review development applications and recommend approval, denial, or conditions.
  • • Prepare maps, graphics, and narrative reports using land use and demographic data.
  • • Advise officials, developers, and the public on feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and code compliance.
  • • Conduct site visits, surveys, and impact studies on economic, social, environmental, and physical factors.
  • • Lead or participate in pre-application and coordination meetings on project purpose and land use.
  • • Monitor and interpret zoning, building, and environmental regulations.
  • • Facilitate community engagement and mediate stakeholder issues; develop alternatives.
  • • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and consultants on plans and infrastructure design.
  • • Review and comment on environmental impact documents and mitigation measures.
  • • Supervise or support planning technicians and interns.
  • • Organize and present at public meetings, hearings, and workshops.
  • • Promote sustainable and equitable planning practices to agencies and the public.
  • • Develop or support multimodal transportation and mobility plans to reduce emissions.
  • • Evaluate development and infrastructure proposals for environmental and sustainability performance.
  • • Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and habitat restoration projects.
  • • Analyze regulatory constraints and prepare findings of consistency.
  • • Assess project feasibility and recommend revisions to meet plans, policies, and codes.
  • • Research property ownership, entitlements, and availability for development or preservation.
  • • Conduct interviews, surveys, and inspections related to zoning, traffic, and housing.
  • • Produce charts, statistics, and graphics to illustrate planning studies.
  • • Maintain GIS maps, spatial databases, and document repositories.
  • • Update files and datasets on land use, permits, and demographics.
  • • Compile research from maps, reports, and fieldwork for staff reports and special projects.
  • • Respond to public inquiries and complaints.
