Description
Perform administrative and clinical duties in a podiatry practice under the supervision of a podiatrist. Administrative work includes scheduling, maintaining podiatric records, billing, and insurance coding. Clinical work includes obtaining vitals and foot/ankle histories, preparing patients for exams, assisting with foot procedures and wound care, taking foot/ankle x-rays, casting for orthotics and braces, and administering medications as directed.
  • • Interview patients about foot and ankle concerns, medical history, and measure vitals, weight, and height.
  • • Escort patients to podiatry exam rooms and prepare feet for examination.
  • • Document podiatric histories, exam findings, pedal pulses, and test results in the EHR.
  • • Prepare and administer oral, topical, or injectable medications as directed by the podiatrist.
  • • Collect and prepare specimens, such as nail, skin, or wound swabs, and log for laboratory testing.
  • • Explain foot care instructions, treatment plans, footwear guidance, and medication use to patients.
  • • Assist the podiatrist during procedures, passing instruments and performing tasks such as injection preparation, nail procedure setup, or suture removal.
  • • Process prescription refills and communicate with pharmacies per podiatrist orders.
  • • Prepare and turn over treatment rooms, maintaining podiatry instruments and supplies.
  • • Clean and sterilize podiatric instruments and dispose of sharps and biohazard waste.
  • • Schedule clinic visits, imaging, and podiatric procedures or surgeries.
  • • Change dressings and manage foot and ankle wound care per protocol.
  • • Greet, check in, and triage podiatry patients.
  • • Coordinate diagnostic imaging or hospital admissions for foot and ankle conditions.
  • • Perform front-desk duties, answer phones, obtain authorizations, and complete insurance forms.
  • • Maintain inventory and order podiatry supplies, DME, and orthotic materials.
  • • Perform routine point-of-care tests, such as glucose checks or basic vascular or neurological screenings as directed.
  • • Set up and maintain podiatry equipment, such as nail drills, autoclaves, and casting materials.
  • • Assist with casting, foam impressions, or digital scans for custom orthotics and brace fittings.
  • • Obtain and position patients for foot and ankle radiographs; operate digital x-ray equipment if credentialed.
