Description
Perform administrative and pediatric-focused clinical duties under the direction of a pediatrician. Administrative duties include scheduling well-child and sick visits, maintaining pediatric records, managing immunization documentation, and handling billing and coding. Clinical duties include obtaining pediatric histories and vital signs, measuring growth and plotting percentiles, preparing children for exams, collecting specimens, performing point-of-care tests, and administering vaccines and medications as ordered.
  • • Interview children and parents/guardians to obtain histories; measure weight, length/height, head circumference, and vital signs; plot growth percentiles.
  • • Escort families to exam rooms and prepare infants, children, and adolescents for the pediatrician.
  • • Document histories, immunizations, developmental screenings, vitals, and test results in the pediatric EHR.
  • • Prepare and administer age-appropriate vaccines and medications per provider orders, using weight-based dosing.
  • • Collect pediatric blood, urine, throat, and other specimens; label and process for testing using child-appropriate techniques.
  • • Explain procedures, vaccines, medications, and home care to parents/guardians and age-appropriate patients.
  • • Assist pediatricians during exams and minor procedures; provide comfort and distraction; perform injections, rapid tests, or suture removal as directed.
  • • Process prescription refills and communicate dosing instructions to pharmacies as authorized.
  • • Prepare and sanitize pediatric exam rooms; maintain child-safe, stocked environments.
  • • Clean, sterilize, and track instruments; dispose of biohazard waste and sharps per protocol.
  • • Schedule well-child, sick, immunization, and follow-up appointments.
  • • Change dressings on pediatric wounds and provide caregiver instruction.
  • • Greet and check in families; verify consent and guardianship as required.
  • • Coordinate referrals and schedule patients for labs, imaging, or hospital admission.
  • • Perform front-office duties, including answering calls, managing messages, and completing insurance and school/sports/camp health forms.
  • • Monitor inventory and order pediatric vaccines, supplies, and office materials; manage cold-chain logs.
  • • Perform point-of-care tests such as rapid strep/flu, hemoglobin, lead, and urinalysis; record results.
  • • Set up, calibrate, and maintain pediatric equipment such as scales, thermometers, and nebulizers.
  • • Perform EKGs, vision and hearing screenings, and spirometry as ordered.
  • • Post charges, collect copays, and assist with billing and coding for pediatric visits and immunizations.
