Description
Support hospital-based outpatient clinics by performing administrative and limited clinical duties under the supervision of physicians and nurses. Responsibilities include patient intake and scheduling, maintaining EHR documentation and insurance requirements, and coordinating referrals and authorizations. Clinical support includes obtaining vitals and histories, preparing patients and rooms, collecting specimens, performing point-of-care tests, and administering medications per provider orders and policy.
  • • Interview patients and obtain chief complaint, medical history, and vital signs, height, and weight.
  • • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them and equipment for clinicians.
  • • Document histories, vitals, and test results accurately in the EHR.
  • • Prepare and administer injections or medications per provider order and hospital policy.
  • • Collect, label, and process blood, urine, and other specimens; transport to the lab per protocol.
  • • Perform point-of-care tests and quality controls (e.g., glucose, urinalysis, pregnancy, strep).
  • • Explain clinic procedures, medications, and pre/post-procedure or discharge instructions as directed.
  • • Assist clinicians during examinations and minor procedures; hand instruments and remove sutures as instructed.
  • • Process prescription refills under protocol and communicate with pharmacies.
  • • Turn over and restock exam rooms; maintain cleanliness and readiness.
  • • Clean and disinfect equipment; prepare instruments or coordinate with Central Sterile for sterilization; dispose of biohazard waste properly.
  • • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, follow-ups, and specialty referrals.
  • • Register and check in patients; verify identity, insurance, and required consents.
  • • Coordinate imaging, procedures, and admissions with hospital departments and services.
  • • Answer phones, route messages, and manage patient portal communications.
  • • Complete prior authorizations, referrals, and disability/FMLA or other forms.
  • • Maintain inventory and order clinic, lab, and office supplies; monitor vaccine and medication stock.
  • • Set up, calibrate, and maintain approved clinic diagnostic and POCT equipment.
  • • Collect copays and process patient charges per hospital policy.
  • • Perform EKGs and other approved diagnostic tests; arrange radiology exams as needed.
