Description
Lead aquatic fitness classes and swim instruction for individuals and groups, focusing on personal fitness and water safety. Demonstrate stroke mechanics and aquatic exercise techniques, observe and correct form, and tailor programs to participant abilities and goals. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized aquatic training plans.
- • Explain and enforce pool, deck, and water safety rules and proper use of aquatic equipment.
- • Offer shallow- and deep-water modifications and equipment options to accommodate varied fitness and swim levels.
- • Plan aquatic fitness routines, select appropriate music, and sequence movements targeting major muscle groups.
- • Observe participants and provide stroke and technique corrections for skill improvement.
- • Teach breath control, rhythmic breathing, and safe submersion techniques.
- • Instruct participants on managing exertion in water using perceived exertion, heart-rate cues, and rest intervals.
- • Teach and demonstrate use of aquatic equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, fins, paddles, noodles, and flotation belts.
- • Inspect and maintain aquatics equipment; ensure lanes, steps, and ladders are safe and available.
- • Lead therapeutic, recreational, and athletic aquatic activities, including aqua aerobics and lap training.
- • Monitor participant progress and adapt workouts, stroke drills, and yardage as needed.
- • Evaluate abilities, goals, health status, and water comfort, and develop individualized aquatic training plans to meet special requirements.
- • Plan aquatic physical education programs to build endurance, strength, flexibility, and water competency.
- • Provide information and resources on hydration, nutrition, recovery, and sun protection.
- • Perform water rescues and administer first aid/CPR/AED; activate emergency action plans and refer participants to medical professionals when necessary.
- • Advise participants on appropriate swimwear, goggles, caps, ear protection, and water shoes.
- • Teach swimming fundamentals and water sport skills through instruction and demonstration.
- • Promote aquatics programs and memberships, and record participant information and attendance.
- • Maintain equipment inventories and select, store, issue, and track aquatic and rescue gear as needed.
- • Organize and conduct swim meets, time trials, and aquatic challenges.
- • Check pool temperature and basic water quality indicators before sessions and report issues to facility staff.
- • Collaborate with lifeguards and facility teams to coordinate lane space, scheduling, and participant flow.
