Professor who teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English language and literature (including linguistics and comparative literature), leads original research and publication, mentors students and faculty, and provides academic leadership and service.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate advanced classroom discussions and seminars.
  • • Evaluate and grade student work, including essays, projects, and exams.
  • • Design syllabi and course materials for upper-division and graduate courses.
  • • Deliver lectures and seminars on topics such as poetry, narrative theory, rhetoric, and translation.
  • • Maintain student records, grades, and assessment data.
  • • Lead the development and revision of curricula and instructional methods.
  • • Create, administer, and oversee examinations; supervise grading by TAs.
  • • Hold regular office hours for advising and mentoring.

  • • Select and adopt textbooks and scholarly resources.

  • • Serve on and chair departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Engage in campus, community, and public humanities outreach.
  • • Recruit and mentor graduate students and research assistants.
  • • Compile specialized bibliographies and reading lists for courses and labs.
  • • Supervise undergraduate honors theses and graduate theses/dissertations.
  • • Oversee or collaborate with college writing center initiatives.
  • • Take on administrative roles such as program director or department chair.
  • • Advise and sponsor student organizations and literary clubs.
  • • Seek external funding; write and manage grant proposals.
  • • Provide consulting or expert testimony to industry, media, or government.
  • • Offer additional academic support to students outside of class.
  • • Participate in cultural and literary activities, study-abroad programs, and arts events.
  • • Produce original creative or scholarly works, such as poetry, fiction, or criticism.
  • • Lead faculty recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring.
  • • Conduct peer and staff evaluations; participate in tenure and promotion reviews.
  • • Teach and develop online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.
  • • Teach writing, composition, and communication across the curriculum.
  • • Coordinate course scheduling and teaching assignments.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and colleagues.
  • • Review manuscripts and serve on editorial boards for scholarly publications.
