Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate creative writing (fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and related genres), lead workshops and craft seminars, mentor student writers, direct theses, and pursue creative publication and service in the literary community.
  • • Lead and moderate writing workshops and craft discussions.
  • • Evaluate and grade manuscripts, portfolios, and revision work.
  • • Prepare syllabi, prompts, reading lists, and workshop guidelines.
  • • Deliver craft lectures on narrative structure, poetics, genre forms, and revision.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and assessment records.
  • • Design and revise creative writing curricula and workshop methods.
  • • Assign and assess portfolios, craft essays, and final projects.
  • • Hold office hours for manuscript feedback and advising.
  • • Stay current with contemporary literature and publishing trends through reading, conferences, and networks.
  • • Select textbooks, literary journals, and craft resources.
  • • Advise students on MFA applications, publishing paths, and writing careers.
  • • Produce and publish original creative work and scholarship.
  • • Collaborate with faculty on curriculum, readings, and program initiatives.
  • • Serve on departmental and university committees.
  • • Participate in campus and community literary events and readings.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, admissions, and placement activities.
  • • Compile reading lists and bibliographies for craft study.
  • • Supervise theses, capstones, independent studies, and publishing internships.
  • • Coordinate or support creative writing tutoring and workshops.
  • • Perform administrative duties, such as directing the creative writing program.
  • • Advise literary clubs and student reading series.
  • • Write grant proposals and fellowship applications to support creative projects and programs.
  • • Provide editorial or consulting services to arts and publishing organizations.
  • • Provide additional manuscript conferences and revision support outside of class.
  • • Engage in residencies, festivals, and literary conferences.
  • • Recruit, train, and supervise adjuncts, TAs, and writing instructors.
  • • Conduct performance evaluations for program staff or TAs.
  • • Teach in-person, hybrid, and online creative writing courses.
  • • Teach related courses in editing, publishing, or craft theory.
  • • Schedule creative writing courses and visiting writer events.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and alumni.
  • • Review and judge manuscripts for journals, presses, and contests.
  • • Oversee a campus literary magazine or visiting writers series.
