Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate literature courses across periods, genres, and cultures; lead seminars and lectures; mentor students; and conduct original research in literary studies. Responsibilities include curriculum design, assessment, advising, scholarly publication, and service to the department and university.
  • • Prepare and deliver lectures and lead seminars on poetry, fiction, drama, theory, and criticism.
  • • Initiate and moderate close-reading and interpretive discussions.
  • • Design syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and course calendars.
  • • Compile, administer, and grade exams, essays, and projects.
  • • Evaluate and grade class work and participation.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and required academic records.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise literature curricula and course content.
  • • Select and obtain course texts, scholarly articles, and media.
  • • Compile bibliographies for specialized topics and independent study.
  • • Maintain regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Advise students on academic pathways, research, and careers.
  • • Supervise honors projects, theses, and research assistants.
  • • Mentor teaching assistants and supervise their instruction.
  • • Conduct original research in literary studies and publish findings.
  • • Present research at conferences and participate in scholarly networks.
  • • Write grant proposals and fellowship applications to support research.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching and research initiatives.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Participate in student recruitment and outreach events.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students and alumni.
  • • Review manuscripts and book proposals for journals and presses.
  • • Organize or participate in readings, symposia, and cultural events.
  • • Teach in online, hybrid, and in-person formats.
  • • Integrate digital humanities tools and archives into coursework where appropriate.
  • • Provide extra help to students outside class and refer to campus resources.
  • • Perform administrative duties, including program coordination or leadership roles.
  • • Contribute to course scheduling and assessment reporting.
  • • Act as faculty adviser to relevant student organizations.
