Description
Teach college-level English composition courses focused on academic writing, rhetoric, and research. Design and deliver curriculum, assess student writing, provide feedback, and support diverse learners, with possible involvement in program assessment and scholarly teaching.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate writing workshops, discussions, and peer review sessions.
  • • Evaluate and grade essays, portfolios, and multimodal projects using clear rubrics.
  • • Prepare syllabi, assignment prompts, grading rubrics, and instructional materials.
  • • Deliver lessons on rhetoric, argumentation, research methods, and academic style.
  • • Teach citation and academic integrity, including MLA/APA and source evaluation.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and required course records in the LMS.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise composition curricula aligned to program outcomes.
  • • Design, administer, and score diagnostics, quizzes, and final assessments.
  • • Hold regular office hours and writing conferences to advise and assist students.
  • • Provide timely, actionable feedback on drafts and revisions.
  • • Select and adopt textbooks, readers, OER, and writing handbooks.
  • • Keep current with composition pedagogy, inclusive teaching, and assessment practices.
  • • Collaborate with writing program administrators, librarians, and tutoring staff.
  • • Serve on departmental and general education assessment committees.
  • • Participate in student placement, orientation, and registration activities.
  • • Compile bibliographies and resource lists for research and outside readings.
  • • Coordinate and mentor peer tutors or teaching assistants assigned to composition.
  • • Provide support in the writing center and lead skill-building workshops.
  • • Perform course coordination and contribute to program assessment reports.
  • • Advise students on academic pathways related to writing-intensive study.
  • • Develop and teach online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced composition courses.
  • • Integrate information literacy, digital composing, and e-portfolios into courses.
  • • Assist students needing extra help and refer them to campus support services.
  • • Uphold accessibility, Universal Design for Learning, and FERPA requirements.
  • • Participate in campus and community literacy or writing initiatives.
  • • Write letters of recommendation for students.
  • • Schedule sections, manage waitlists, and submit timely grades.
  • • Engage in scholarship of teaching and learning or present at conferences.
  • • Seek grants or resources for curricular innovation or OER adoption.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues to calibrate grading and share best practices.
