Description
Teach undergraduate and, when assigned, graduate courses in English language, literature, and writing; develop curricula and course materials; assess learning; advise students; and contribute to departmental and campus service. Emphasis is on teaching excellence with ongoing professional development and limited scholarly or creative activity.
- • Prepare and deliver lectures and lessons on topics such as poetry, novel structure, rhetoric, and linguistics.
- • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- • Prepare syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and other course materials.
- • Evaluate and grade students' coursework, papers, and exams in a timely manner.
- • Compile, administer, and grade examinations and assessments.
- • Maintain attendance, grades, and other required records.
- • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
- • Advise students on academic pathways, writing development, and career options.
- • Plan, evaluate, and revise course content, curricula, and teaching methods.

- • Keep abreast of developments in English studies and pedagogy through reading and professional development.
- • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment, assessment, and student success initiatives.
- • Serve on departmental or institutional committees and participate in faculty meetings.
- • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and retention activities.
- • Compile bibliographies and curate outside reading and media for courses.
- • Assist students who need extra help with coursework outside of class.
- • Perform limited administrative duties, such as course coordination and assessment reporting.
- • Act as an adviser to student organizations or literary clubs.
- • Contribute to internal teaching and learning grant proposals when appropriate.
- • Engage in scholarly or creative activity related to teaching, literature, or writing as appropriate to appointment.
- • Participate in campus and community literary or cultural events, including study-abroad or field experiences.
- • Provide input on course scheduling and staffing needs.
- • Review manuscripts or conference proposals in area of expertise.
