Description
Operate teletypewriter/teleprinter equipment to send, receive, and route messages over communication circuits. Duties include preparing copy or punched tape for transmission, verifying message accuracy, and maintaining logs.
- • Read source messages, forms, or dispatches and key them into teletype equipment for transmission.
- • Compile, prioritize, and verify messages before sending.
- • Compare transmitted or received copy with originals to detect and correct errors.
- • File and route incoming and outgoing messages to designated recipients or locations.
- • Identify line or transmission errors and retransmit or escalate to supervisors.
- • Maintain station logs of traffic, circuit status, and completed transmissions.
- • Select required paper, forms, ribbons, or code books to complete assignments.
- • Load and thread paper, ribbons, and punched tape; set machine switches and circuits as needed.
- • Troubleshoot garbled or indecipherable messages and apply authorized decoding or recovery procedures.
