Description
Operate photocomposing perforator machines to key text and control codes from copy into perforated tape for phototypesetting; verify accuracy, apply typesetting specifications, prepare output for printing workflows, and maintain equipment.
  • • Read manuscripts, copy, and typesetting specifications; key text and control codes to create perforated tape.
  • • Compile and verify copy, formatting instructions, and job tickets before entry.
  • • Perform verification passes and compare output with source copy to detect errors.
  • • Load and thread paper tape, leader, and take-up reels; set machine modes and code tables as required.
  • • Locate and correct coding or keystroke errors by re-keying or splicing tape; escalate issues when needed.
  • • Generate or request test proofs and review for layout, readability, and hyphenation accuracy; make adjustments.
  • • Label, coil, and store completed tapes, proofs, and job documentation in designated locations.
  • • Maintain logs of jobs, versions, corrections, and completion times.
  • • Clean and service the perforator by clearing chad, checking punches, and replacing consumables to ensure reliable operation.
