Description
Apply structural engineering principles to support the analysis, detailing, and construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures under the direction of structural engineers. Produce drawings and models, perform calculations and tests, and observe field work to verify compliance with codes and project specifications.
- • Compute member sizes, reinforcement, connection details, and material quantities using calculators, spreadsheets, or software.
- • Draft structural plans, sections, elevations, and details to meet design criteria and codes.
- • Develop and maintain CAD/BIM models and framing layouts; generate drawings, schedules, and quantities.
- • Review architectural and MEP backgrounds and structural specifications to determine loads, dimensions, and materials.
- • Prepare technical reports, calculation summaries, test logs, and as-built documentation.
- • Coordinate with supervising structural engineer on design approach, deliverables, acceptance testing, and field evaluations.
- • Perform site observations to verify rebar, formwork, steel erection, anchors, and embeds conform to drawings and codes; note deficiencies.
- • Conduct field measurements and condition assessments of existing structures; document findings with photos and sketches.
- • Assist in developing structural scopes and cost estimates for foundations, framing, and repairs.
- • Track and report construction issues affecting structural work and recommend minor field adjustments for review.
- • Conduct or coordinate basic materials testing such as concrete cylinder breaks, grout tests, and bolt tension tests; record results.
- • Respond to contractor RFIs and public inquiries related to structural work per engineer guidance.
- • Assist in preparing schedules and budgets for structural deliverables, testing, and inspections.
- • Review and help price contractor change orders for structural components in consultation with engineers and contractors.
