CADD Technician (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting Technician)
Civil Engineering Technologists and TechniciansDescription
Use computer-aided design and drafting software to create, edit, and manage drawings and models for civil engineering projects, producing plans and documentation under engineer direction and in compliance with standards and specifications.
- • Produce detailed CAD drawings, 2D/3D models, and plan sets in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation.
- • Generate dimensions, profiles, cross-sections, and quantity takeoffs from CAD data.
- • Interpret engineering sketches, redlines, and specifications to develop accurate drawings and details.
- • Apply and maintain CAD standards, layers, templates, blocks, and styles across project files.
- • Assemble and annotate sheets, title blocks, and plan/profile layouts per drafting standards.
- • Import and process survey, point cloud, and GIS data to build base maps and surfaces.
- • Conduct site measurements or use field notes to verify dimensions and produce as-built drawings.
- • Perform drawing QA/QC, detect clashes, and resolve drafting issues with the design team.
- • Prepare site plans, grading, utility, roadway details, and exhibits as directed.
- • Maintain drawing logs, file naming, revision histories, and version control.
- • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to clarify design intent and deliverables.
- • Plot, package, and submit CAD files, PDFs, and digital models to clients and agencies.
- • Support estimates and schedules by forecasting drafting hours and production needs.
- • Create presentation graphics and diagrams for meetings, permits, and public outreach.
