Description
Support recreational therapists in delivering medically approved recreation programs for patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities. Assist with activity setup, facilitation, and documentation for sports, outings, arts, music, and social events. Monitor participation and safety, collect data, and relay observations to the treatment team.
- • Observe and document patient participation, affect, and tolerance during sessions; report significant changes to the therapist.
- • Implement components of individualized treatment plans as directed by the recreational therapist.
- • Encourage and coach patients to engage in prescribed leisure and wellness activities.
- • Provide basic instruction in activities such as sports, games, arts, music, or relaxation under supervision.
- • Assist with gathering patient interests, abilities, and needs from charts, interviews, and family input.
- • Prepare, set up, and clean activity areas, equipment, and adaptive devices; maintain safety and infection-control standards.
- • Co-facilitate group and one-to-one sessions and lead portions of activities as assigned.
- • Transport or escort patients to and from therapy activities and community outings.
- • Track attendance and enter progress notes and outcome data in paper or electronic records per policy.
- • Communicate observations and patient responses to the treatment team and participate in care huddles or meetings as requested.
- • Support discharge preparation by assembling home activity materials and community resource information.
