Description
Plan, direct, and coordinate clinically approved dance/movement therapy programs for patients in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, behavioral health, or long-term care settings. Use movement, rhythm, and creative expression to address physical, cognitive, and psychosocial goals; assess clients and recommend individualized dance-based interventions.
- • Observe, analyze, and document clients’ movement, affect, and progress during dance therapy, modifying interventions as needed.
- • Develop dance/movement treatment plans based on assessment, client goals, cultural background, and therapeutic objectives.
- • Encourage clients with diverse abilities to build motor, sensory, and social skills through accessible movement and rhythm-based activities.
- • Coach clients to integrate safe, enjoyable movement practices into daily life and community settings.
- • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to plan, coordinate, and evaluate dance therapy goals and outcomes.
- • Lead individual and group dance/movement therapy sessions to improve emotional regulation, body awareness, mobility, and quality of life.
- • Teach movement techniques—e.g., improvisation, mirroring, grounding, relaxation, and breathwork—tailored to clients’ physical and psychological needs.
- • Gather information from records, care teams, families, and clients to assess movement history, contraindications, strengths, and preferences.
- • Plan, organize, and facilitate dance-based programs that support rehabilitation, social connection, and prevention of deconditioning or relapse.
- • Maintain session notes and outcome measures; report client responses, progress, or risks to the treatment team.
- • Develop discharge and transition plans, including home movement routines, community resources, and referrals.
