Description
Plan, deliver, and coordinate medically approved music-based rehabilitation programs for patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other settings. Assess abilities and needs, then use evidence-based music therapy to improve physical, cognitive, communication, and psychosocial functioning and recommend appropriate interventions.
- • Assess patients' abilities, needs, and interests using interviews, records, and standardized music therapy assessments.
- • Develop individualized music therapy treatment plans with measurable goals aligned to medical and rehabilitation objectives.
- • Conduct music therapy sessions using techniques such as singing, instrument play, rhythmic entrainment, improvisation, and receptive listening.
- • Instruct patients in music-based techniques for motor, speech-language, cognitive, pain, stress, and mood management.
- • Observe, record, and analyze patient participation, responses, and outcomes; modify interventions as needed.
- • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical/occupational/speech therapists, and behavioral health staff to coordinate and evaluate care.
- • Facilitate group music therapy and therapeutic music activities to build social skills and community reintegration.
- • Adapt instruments, technology, and environments for accessibility and safety.
- • Educate and counsel patients and families on safe, health-promoting music use and home practice.
- • Document progress, session notes, and goal attainment; prepare reports for the treatment team.
- • Develop discharge plans, including home programs, referrals, and community music resources.
