Description
Inspect and measure petroleum, alcohol, and other taxable liquids and associated equipment at regulated facilities and transfer points to verify quantities and custody transfer, ensure compliance with contracts and government regulations, and prevent loss, diversion, or tax evasion.
  • • Prepare correspondence, inspection reports, gauging calculations, and recommendations for action.
  • • Examine run tickets, meter logs, tank charts, bills of lading, and inventory records to verify quantities and detect discrepancies.
  • • Monitor loading, unloading, blending, and custody-transfer operations for regulatory compliance.
  • • Collect, label, evaluate, and preserve product samples with proper chain of custody.
  • • Inspect tanks, meters, temperature and pressure devices, and seals for accuracy, calibration, and tamper evidence.
  • • Verify standard volume calculations using approved methods, software, and correction factors.
  • • Coordinate with law enforcement and tax authorities on suspected diversion, fraud, or theft.
  • • Testify in court or administrative proceedings regarding gauging methods and findings.
  • • Inspect government-sealed meters or government-owned measurement equipment at private facilities to prevent misuse.
  • • Recommend administrative, tax, or legal action to protect government revenue and property.
  • • Submit samples to government laboratories for quality and specification testing, as required.
  • • Inspect refineries, terminals, pipelines, marine vessels, railcars, and tank trucks for compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • • Investigate alleged permit or license violations and review applications for special permits related to excisable liquids and custody-transfer systems.
