Description
Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in engineering disciplines while conducting original, externally funded research. Apply physical laws and engineering principles to the development of machines, materials, instruments, processes, and services, and provide service to the department, university, and profession.
  • • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate lectures in areas such as mechanics, controls, materials, and robotics.
  • • Stay current in the field through scholarship, conferences, and professional societies.
  • • Supervise undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral research, internships, and teaching assistants.
  • • Assess and grade coursework, laboratories, projects, and exams.
  • • Conduct original research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, or books.
  • • Design syllabi, assignments, labs, and other course materials.
  • • Create, administer, and grade examinations, or oversee TAs who do so.
  • • Write competitive grant proposals to secure external research funding.
  • • Oversee student laboratory work and ensure safety and compliance.
  • • Lead and moderate class discussions and active-learning activities.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Develop and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Advise students on degree planning, research opportunities, and career paths.
  • • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required academic records.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching initiatives and interdisciplinary research.
  • • Select textbooks, software, laboratory supplies, and equipment.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, admissions, and placement activities.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Assume academic leadership roles, such as program coordinator or department chair.
  • • Provide professional consulting or outreach to industry or government.
  • • Curate reading lists and reference materials for courses and independent study.
  • • Advise and support student organizations and teams.
  • • Engage in campus, alumni, and community outreach events.
  • • Review manuscripts and proposals for professional journals and funding agencies.
