Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on the application of physical laws and engineering principles across areas such as chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, mechanical, mineral, and petroleum engineering; lead a visible, externally funded research program; mentor students and junior colleagues; and provide service and leadership to the department, college, and profession.
- • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate lectures and labs in areas such as mechanics, hydraulics, controls, and robotics.
- • Design advanced electives and graduate seminars aligned with research expertise.
- • Supervise and mentor MS and PhD theses, capstone projects, and undergraduate research.
- • Evaluate and grade coursework, labs, projects, and papers.
- • Lead an independent, externally funded research program.
- • Publish research in high-impact journals, conferences, and other scholarly venues.
- • Prepare competitive grant proposals and manage awarded budgets and reporting.
- • Build and supervise a research group, including postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate researchers.

- • Develop, administer, and grade examinations, or oversee TAs in this work.
- • Hold regular office hours and provide academic and career advising.

- • Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners on interdisciplinary teaching and research.
- • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and compliance requirements.
- • Select, procure, and maintain textbooks, software, laboratory equipment, and safety supplies.
- • Serve on and often chair departmental, college, and university committees.
- • Lead student recruitment, outreach, and graduate admissions and placement activities.
- • Provide professional consulting and technology transfer to government or industry, as appropriate.
- • Review manuscripts and grant proposals; serve on editorial boards or program committees.
- • Advise and support student organizations and experiential learning teams.
- • Participate in campus, community, and professional events and represent the program.
- • Perform administrative duties such as coordinating an academic area or directing a program or lab.
- • Uphold lab safety, research integrity, and inclusive teaching practices; train students in these areas.
