Description
Teach and develop postsecondary engineering courses and labs applying physical laws and engineering principles to the design of machines, materials, instruments, processes, and services. May specialize in areas such as chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, mechanical, materials, or petroleum engineering. Emphasizes teaching, student mentoring, curriculum development, and industry-aligned experiential learning; may contribute to applied projects or pedagogical scholarship.
  • • Prepare and deliver lectures and demonstrations on topics such as mechanics, materials, circuits, controls, and robotics.
  • • Develop and lead laboratory sessions; supervise students and enforce safety protocols.
  • • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and lab manuals.
  • • Evaluate and grade coursework, labs, projects, and exams.
  • • Compile, administer, and grade examinations or coordinate proctors and graders.
  • • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Advise students on academic pathways, internships, and career options.
  • • Mentor student design teams and capstone projects.
  • • Supervise teaching assistants, graders, and student workers.
  • • Coordinate and supervise internship or cooperative education placements.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate class discussions and active-learning activities.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods aligned with program outcomes.
  • • Maintain attendance, grades, and required course records.
  • • Select and procure textbooks, software, lab supplies, and equipment; manage lab inventory.
  • • Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to enhance courses and experiential learning.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and retention initiatives.
  • • Serve on departmental or institutional committees and contribute to academic policies.
  • • Support program assessment, accreditation documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • • Keep current with engineering practice and pedagogy through reading, training, and professional conferences.
  • • Pursue teaching innovations, industry certifications, or applied projects and share results when appropriate.
  • • Assist with grant proposals for instructional labs, equipment, or outreach.
  • • Provide professional consulting or advisory services to government, industry, or community partners when appropriate.
  • • Engage in outreach, campus, and community events; advise student organizations.
