Description
Assemble and modify wire harnesses for vehicles, aerospace, industrial, or electronic equipment by routing, terminating, and labeling wires; installing connectors and protective hardware; and testing for continuity and compliance with specifications.
- • Read and interpret harness drawings, wiring schematics, pinout charts, BOMs, and work orders.
- • Measure and verify lengths, tolerances, and layout accuracy using templates and calipers.
- • Install EMI/RFI shields, braid, and protective loom; torque hardware to requirements.
- • Drill, notch, or prep backshells and hardware as needed to accommodate cable routing.
- • Cut wires and cables to length; strip, tin, and mark conductors per specifications.
- • Crimp contacts and terminals and solder connections to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
- • Install connectors, backshells, seals, boots, strain reliefs, grommets, and heat-shrink or sleeving.
- • Route, lace, and bundle wires on harness boards or fixtures per layout.
- • Label wires and branches and tag components for identification and traceability.
- • Inspect and test harnesses for continuity, insulation resistance, and correct pinout; record results.
- • Use multimeters, hipot testers, and test fixtures to verify operation and workmanship.
- • Troubleshoot opens, shorts, and miswires; rework or replace wires, pins, or hardware to meet spec.
- • Clean wires, contacts, and connectors; maintain an ESD-safe and FOD-free work area.
- • Complete travelers, test records, time logs, and scrap or rework reports in ERP/MES systems.
- • Package finished harnesses with caps, protective covers, and documentation; move to storage or shipping.
- • Kit and distribute wires, connectors, and subassemblies to work areas and coordinate with leads or engineers to resolve issues.
