Description
Build and modify AC, DC, and servo electric motors by assembling stators, rotors, windings, shafts, bearings, housings, and related wiring to meet specifications.
- • Inspect and test motor windings and circuits for resistance, continuity, insulation, and operation, and record results.
- • Assemble motor subassemblies and install components, wiring, and housings using presses, rivets, bolts, soldering, or micro-welding equipment.
- • Adjust, repair, or replace bearings, brushes, windings, seals, or leads to correct defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- • Mark and tag windings, leads, and components for identification and inventory tracking.
- • Clean and prepare housings, shafts, and components using cleaning solutions, air hoses, and cloths.
- • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, specifications, work orders, or reports to determine materials and assembly instructions.
- • Position, align, and center stators, rotors, and shafts to achieve proper clearances and facilitate assembly.
- • Pack finished motors for shipment and move them to storage areas using hoists or handtrucks.
- • Confer with supervisors or engineers to plan work, review test results, or resolve production problems.
- • Explain motor assembly procedures or techniques and help train new or temporary workers.
- • Measure and adjust no-load current, voltage, and rotation to specified values to verify motor performance.
- • Fabricate or form coils, wedges, slot liners, or small parts per specifications using winding machines, calipers, cutters, or saws.
- • Drill or tap holes in end bells or housings to mount accessories or route leads and sensors.
- • Complete, review, or maintain production, time, test, or scrap reports.
- • Impregnate and cure windings with varnish or resin using vacuum/pressure equipment or ovens.
- • Distribute materials, supplies, or subassemblies to motor assembly workstations.
