Description
Schedule and dispatch truck drivers, tractors, and trailers for pickup and delivery of freight across assigned lanes. Use TMS, GPS/ELD, phone, or radio to assign loads, plan routes, monitor compliance and equipment status, and compile reports on progress, costs, and service levels.
- • Dispatch drivers, tractors, and trailers to pickups and deliveries via TMS, phone, or radio.
- • Arrange roadside assistance and shop repairs to reduce downtime.
- • Relay load details, route instructions, and updates between drivers, operations, and customers.
- • Coordinate with shippers and receivers to resolve service issues and special requests.
- • Prepare daily driver, load, and route plans that meet hours-of-service and appointment windows.
- • Receive, enter, and update load tenders, BOLs, and appointments.
- • Manage communications for assigned lanes, fleets, or regions.
- • Track trucks via GPS/ELD and optimize utilization, backhauls, and driver hours.
- • Maintain dispatch records, driver logs, accessorials, expenses, and customer status.
- • Match freight to equipment types and obtain permits or escorts when required.
- • Advise drivers on traffic, weather, road closures, and hazards; adjust ETAs.
- • Issue fuel cards or equipment and coordinate equipment availability and maintenance.
