Description
Identify, evaluate, and recommend athletic talent for a professional sports organization. Scout amateur and professional players via live events, video, and analytics; produce reports and projections; build networks; and collaborate with the front office to support draft, signing, and trade decisions while adhering to league rules and adopting current technologies.
- • Plan and execute scouting coverage for assigned regions, leagues, and events.
- • Attend games, practices, combines, and showcases to evaluate players.
- • Analyze player performance using live observation, video, and analytics tools.
- • File detailed scouting reports with grades, projections, and recommendations.
- • Maintain prospect databases and update rankings and follow lists.
- • Identify and recommend targets for drafts, free agency, trades, and international signings.

- • Coordinate and conduct private workouts and evaluations with staff.
- • Perform due diligence on character, background, medical, and signability.
- • Build and maintain relationships with players, agents, coaches, and scouts.
- • Present evaluations to the front office and participate in draft and roster meetings.
- • Collaborate with analytics, coaching, and medical staff to align assessments.
- • Produce video edits and supporting materials to substantiate recommendations.
- • Track prospect progression and update reports throughout the season.
- • Manage travel plans, itineraries, expenses, and coverage budgets.
- • Ensure compliance with league rules, tampering policies, and recruiting regulations.
- • Mentor and coordinate part-time or area scouts; calibrate grading standards.
- • Organize tryouts, showcases, or pro days in collaboration with staff.
- • Use and maintain scouting equipment and software, including video and tracking systems.
- • Develop seasonal coverage calendars around key tournaments and deadlines.
- • Represent the organization at events and with media as needed.
- • Prepare competitive intelligence on contracts, market values, and transaction trends.
- • Keep and review video, data, and written records of prospects and opponents.
- • Monitor waiver wire and transaction opportunities and alert decision makers.
- • Provide input on contract offers, bonuses, and roster fit.
