Description
Coach individuals and teams in American football to compete successfully. Teach fundamentals, techniques, and schemes; plan practices and game strategies; evaluate and develop players; ensure safety and compliance; and manage recruiting, staff, and program operations.
- • Plan, organize, and conduct football practices, drills, and walkthroughs.
- • Design offensive, defensive, and special teams playbooks and weekly game plans.
- • Select starters and rotations; assign positions based on evaluations and team needs.
- • Direct strength, conditioning, and recovery programs specific to football.
- • Adjust techniques and schemes to player and unit strengths and weaknesses.
- • Scout opponents and file reports on tendencies, personnel, and situational analytics.
- • Instruct players in rules, tackling and blocking, footwork, route running, and position-specific skills.
- • Evaluate player skills using film, testing, and performance data to guide development.
- • Stay current on NFHS/NCAA/NFL rules, safety protocols, and coaching technologies.
- • Ensure proper fit and safe use of helmets, pads, and other equipment.
- • Develop season calendars; schedule games, scrimmages, practices, and team events.
- • Teach and enforce safety, including proper contact techniques and concussion protocols.
- • Organize and run camps, clinics, combines, and tryouts.
- • Manage inventory, fitting, and issuance of uniforms, helmets, pads, and training gear.
- • Provide instruction, feedback, motivation, and nutrition and hydration guidance.
- • Teach related courses and advise students when required by the institution.
- • Communicate with players and families about expectations, schedules, and progress.
- • Coordinate travel, lodging, and logistics for away games.
- • Hire, supervise, and develop assistant coaches, coordinators, and support staff.
- • Maintain video libraries; analyze practice and game film; track key performance metrics.
- • Mentor players on academic, athletic, and personal development.
- • Lead community outreach, media relations, and fundraising for the program.
- • Monitor academic eligibility and compliance requirements.
- • Recruit prospects; build relationships with feeder programs; host visits; manage offers within rules.
- • Oversee the program budget, equipment purchases, and fundraising activities.
