Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, such as financial and managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems, and develop related curricula. Includes both professors primarily engaged in teaching and those who combine teaching with research in accounting.
  • • Prepare and deliver lectures on financial accounting, managerial/cost accounting, auditing, taxation, governmental/nonprofit accounting, and accounting information systems.
  • • Evaluate and grade students' problem sets, cases, projects, and papers.
  • • Compile, administer, and grade examinations, including CPA-style assessments, or assign this work to others.
  • • Prepare syllabi, assignments, cases, rubrics, and other course materials.
  • • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions on standards, ethics, analytics, and professional judgment.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise accounting curricula, course content, and instructional methods to align with accreditation and CPA Evolution requirements.
  • • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • • Keep abreast of developments by following FASB/IASB and PCAOB guidance, reading current literature, and attending professional conferences.
  • • Advise students on academic planning, CPA exam preparation, internships, and accounting careers.
  • • Select and obtain textbooks, cases, datasets, and software for accounting courses.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching innovation, assessment, and accounting research.
  • • Partner with public accounting firms, corporations, and government agencies to improve programs and provide internships and experiential learning.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities for accounting programs.
  • • Serve on academic or administrative committees related to curriculum, assessment, accreditation, and governance.
  • • Participate in campus and community events, including accounting-related outreach.
  • • Compile bibliographies and reading lists of standards, articles, and cases for outside study.
  • • Perform administrative duties, such as program coordination or serving as department chair.
  • • Supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching assistants, internships, and student research in accounting.
  • • Conduct research in areas such as financial reporting, auditing, taxation, managerial accounting, or analytics, and publish findings.
  • • Advise and support student organizations related to accounting and finance.
  • • Provide professional consulting or executive education to industry, public accounting, or government.
  • • Write grant proposals to procure external funding for accounting research and education.
  • • Develop and maintain course websites and learning management system content, integrating spreadsheets, ERP, and audit analytics tools.
  • • Mentor new faculty and adjuncts in accounting pedagogy and curriculum.
