Description
Assist clinical laboratory scientists by collecting, receiving, and processing patient specimens. Set up, operate, and maintain routine analyzers; perform waived testing; record and verify results in the LIS; and support quality control and documentation while following CLIA, CAP, and infection-control standards.
- • Verify patient identity and label specimens using two identifiers.
- • Perform phlebotomy and collect swabs, urine, and other specimens per protocol.
- • Receive, accession, and prioritize specimens in the LIS.
- • Process specimens by centrifuging, aliquoting, and preparing slides or smears.
- • Maintain specimen integrity, chain of custody, and proper storage and transport conditions.
- • Set up, calibrate, clean, and troubleshoot routine clinical analyzers and equipment.
- • Perform CLIA-waived tests and assist with moderate-complexity testing under supervision.
- • Monitor quality control and document corrective actions for out-of-range results.
- • Enter, verify, and release test orders and results in the LIS/EHR.
- • Keep detailed logs, temperature charts, and maintenance records.
- • Maintain clean, stocked work areas and manage biohazardous waste.
- • Follow safety, infection-control, and HIPAA policies; use PPE correctly.
- • Package and ship reference lab specimens per DOT and IATA regulations.
- • Communicate specimen issues, recollect needs, and turnaround times to clinical staff.
- • Perform inventory counts and place orders for supplies.
- • Assist with proficiency testing and regulatory readiness for CLIA, CAP, and The Joint Commission.
- • Prepare reagents, stains, and media as directed.
