Biological Technicians
Description
Assist environmental scientists and engineers. Set up, operate, and maintain field and laboratory instruments and equipment; monitor environmental conditions and sampling events; collect samples and data; make observations; and calculate and record results. May analyze environmental samples for physical, chemical, and biological contaminants.
  • • Keep detailed field and laboratory logs of activities and observations.
  • • Monitor field and lab work to ensure compliance with SOPs, QA/QC plans, and regulations.
  • • Prepare, label, preserve, and ship environmental samples under chain-of-custody.
  • • Use data loggers, sondes, air monitors, GPS/GIS, and computer-interfaced equipment to perform duties.
  • • Collect water, soil, sediment, air, and biological samples and site information for environmental studies.
  • • Set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot field and laboratory instruments and pumps.
  • • Provide technical support for environmental assessments, compliance, remediation, and resource management projects.
  • • Clean, decontaminate, and maintain equipment, vehicles, and work areas; restock supplies.
  • • Participate in environmental monitoring programs, site assessments, and remediation fieldwork.
  • • Conduct standardized field measurements and laboratory analyses of physical, chemical, and biological parameters.
  • • Analyze environmental data, perform QA/QC, and compile tables, figures, and summaries for reports.
  • • Prepare reagents, calibration standards, and sampling media.
  • • Monitor environmental conditions and sampling events, recording data and metadata for review.
  • • Inspect sites for contamination, spills, erosion, habitat impacts, or noncompliance issues.
  • • Perform stormwater, erosion and sediment control, or air-emissions inspections at facilities or construction sites.
  • • Enter and manage data in spreadsheets, databases, and GIS systems.
  • • Order and track sampling supplies, PPE, calibration gases, and equipment.
