Description
Assist biologists and ecologists in outdoor studies and monitoring. Set up, operate, and maintain field instruments and sampling gear; conduct surveys, collect specimens and environmental samples, make observations, and record georeferenced data. May process samples and perform basic laboratory analyses while ensuring protocol, permit, and safety compliance.
  • • Set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot field equipment (e.g., data loggers, water-quality meters, cameras).
  • • Provide technical support to scientists in ecology, environmental science, resource management, and agriculture.
  • • Clean, decontaminate, and organize field gear, vehicles, and work areas.
  • • Support restoration, mitigation, and compliance monitoring projects.
  • • Conduct standardized field measurements and rapid assessments (e.g., water quality, vegetation plots, transects).
  • • Enter, QA/QC, and manage data in databases and GIS.
  • • Summarize findings, prepare tables and maps, and contribute to field reports.
  • • Prepare reagents and standards and measure samples for field tests as needed.
  • • Keep detailed field logs and chain-of-custody records.
  • • Monitor field activities to ensure adherence to protocols, permits, and safety standards.
  • • Collect, label, and preserve biological specimens and environmental samples for analysis.
  • • Use GPS/GIS, tablets, and sensor-integrated equipment to collect and manage data.
  • • Assist with ecological research and monitoring, including surveys of water, soil, plants, wildlife, and habitats.
  • • Install, service, and retrieve remote sensors, trail cameras, and acoustic or telemetry equipment.
  • • Conduct wildlife and plant surveys, including identification, counts, and health observations.
  • • Set and check traps or nets; handle captures under permits and humane protocols.
  • • Coordinate logistics, permits, and procurement of field supplies and equipment.
