Description
Assist biologists and ecologists in outdoor studies and monitoring. Set up, operate, and maintain field instruments and sampling gear; conduct surveys, collect specimens and environmental samples, make observations, and record georeferenced data. May process samples and perform basic laboratory analyses while ensuring protocol, permit, and safety compliance.
- • Set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot field equipment (e.g., data loggers, water-quality meters, cameras).
- • Provide technical support to scientists in ecology, environmental science, resource management, and agriculture.
- • Clean, decontaminate, and organize field gear, vehicles, and work areas.
- • Support restoration, mitigation, and compliance monitoring projects.
- • Conduct standardized field measurements and rapid assessments (e.g., water quality, vegetation plots, transects).
- • Enter, QA/QC, and manage data in databases and GIS.
- • Summarize findings, prepare tables and maps, and contribute to field reports.
- • Prepare reagents and standards and measure samples for field tests as needed.
- • Keep detailed field logs and chain-of-custody records.
- • Monitor field activities to ensure adherence to protocols, permits, and safety standards.
- • Collect, label, and preserve biological specimens and environmental samples for analysis.
- • Use GPS/GIS, tablets, and sensor-integrated equipment to collect and manage data.
- • Assist with ecological research and monitoring, including surveys of water, soil, plants, wildlife, and habitats.
- • Install, service, and retrieve remote sensors, trail cameras, and acoustic or telemetry equipment.
- • Conduct wildlife and plant surveys, including identification, counts, and health observations.
- • Set and check traps or nets; handle captures under permits and humane protocols.
- • Coordinate logistics, permits, and procurement of field supplies and equipment.
