Description
Teach postsecondary biological science courses and laboratories; develop curriculum and assessments; advise students; and support departmental service. Role is teaching-focused with limited research expectations and may include coordinating labs and instructional technologies.
- • Prepare and deliver lectures and labs in areas such as molecular biology, ecology, and botany.
- • Develop syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and course calendars aligned with learning outcomes.
- • Evaluate and grade coursework, laboratory work, exams, and papers.
- • Create, administer, and proctor examinations.
- • Supervise student laboratory work and ensure safety compliance.
- • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required records in the LMS.
- • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
- • Initiate and facilitate inclusive classroom discussions.
- • Plan, evaluate, and revise course content, materials, and teaching methods.
- • Advise students on academic pathways and career options in the life sciences.
- • Mentor and coordinate teaching assistants and lab aides.
- • Select and requisition textbooks, lab kits, and instructional supplies.
- • Collaborate with colleagues on course sequencing, assessment, and teaching practices.
- • Stay current in biological sciences and pedagogy through reading and professional development.
- • Prepare materials and protocols for laboratory activities and field experiences.
- • Organize course-related field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
- • Provide extra help and tutoring outside of class for students needing support.
- • Serve on departmental or institutional committees and attend faculty meetings.
- • Assist with student recruitment, orientation, and registration activities.
- • Contribute to program assessment and accreditation documentation.
- • Ensure compliance with lab safety procedures and institutional policies.
- • Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and report repair needs.
- • Develop and deliver online, hybrid, or flipped course components.
- • Use educational technology and active-learning strategies to promote engagement.
- • Compile reading lists and supplementary resources for outside study.
- • Participate in campus and community outreach, such as public presentations.
- • Support grant-funded educational initiatives as needed.
