Description
Teach primarily undergraduate biological sciences courses and labs; develop curricula and learning materials; assess student learning; and advise students. Role is teaching-focused with service responsibilities and optional participation in instructional or applied scholarship.
- • Prepare and deliver lectures, labs, and demonstrations in biological sciences.
- • Evaluate and grade coursework, lab reports, assignments, and papers.
- • Create, administer, and grade quizzes and examinations.
- • Supervise and coach students during laboratory activities.
- • Enforce laboratory safety protocols and train students in safe practices.
- • Keep current with developments in the field through literature and conferences.
- • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required academic records.
- • Facilitate class discussions and active-learning activities.
- • Plan, assess, and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
- • Advise students on courses, academic progress, and career pathways.
- • Hold regular office hours to assist and mentor students.
- • Mentor teaching assistants, interns, and student capstone projects.
- • Select textbooks, digital resources, and laboratory supplies and equipment.
- • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum alignment and assessment.
- • Participate in pedagogical or applied scholarship as appropriate and share results.
- • Serve on departmental and college committees.
- • Support student recruitment, orientation, and placement initiatives.
- • Contribute to proposals to secure funding for instructional labs and curriculum.
- • Coordinate multi-section courses or learning labs as assigned.
- • Advise or sponsor student clubs and organizations.
- • Compile reading lists and resource guides for outside study.
- • Develop syllabi, lab manuals, assignments, rubrics, and handouts.
- • Provide tutoring or extra-help sessions outside of class.
- • Organize course-related field trips or experiential learning activities.
- • Participate in campus and community outreach events and presentations.
- • Maintain, inventory, and coordinate service for laboratory equipment and materials.
- • Use learning management systems and instructional technology to deliver courses.
