Description
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the biological sciences; supervise laboratories; mentor students; and contribute to research, service, and curriculum development. Includes faculty primarily engaged in teaching and those combining teaching with research.
  • • Prepare and deliver undergraduate and graduate lectures and labs in areas such as molecular biology, ecology, and physiology.
  • • Evaluate and grade coursework, lab work, assignments, and papers.
  • • Design, administer, and grade examinations and other assessments.
  • • Supervise and ensure safety in student laboratory work.
  • • Stay current in the field through literature, seminars, and professional conferences.
  • • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required academic records.
  • • Facilitate inclusive classroom discussions and active learning.
  • • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
  • • Advise students on coursework, research pathways, and career options.
  • • Hold regular office hours to support and advise students.
  • • Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate teaching, internship, and research activities.
  • • Select and procure textbooks, software, lab supplies, and equipment.
  • • Collaborate with colleagues on teaching, research, and assessment initiatives.
  • • Conduct independent or collaborative research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets.
  • • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and placement activities.
  • • Develop and submit grant proposals to secure research funding.
  • • Undertake administrative duties, such as program coordination or leading initiatives.
  • • Advise and support student organizations.
  • • Create reading lists and curated bibliographies for courses.
  • • Provide professional consulting or outreach to government, industry, or community partners.
  • • Prepare syllabi, assignments, lab protocols, and other course materials.
  • • Provide additional academic support to students outside of class.
  • • Organize field experiences or community-based learning relevant to course goals.
  • • Peer-review manuscripts and grant proposals as a service to the discipline.
  • • Engage in campus and community events, talks, and public outreach.
  • • Oversee maintenance and safe operation of laboratory equipment.
