Description
Teach undergraduate biology courses and labs; develop curricula and assessments; advise and mentor students; manage laboratory safety and resources; and contribute to departmental service and student success. Role is teaching-focused with limited research expectations.
- • Prepare and deliver undergraduate biology lectures and labs across areas such as cell biology, genetics, ecology, and physiology.
- • Develop syllabi, lesson plans, lab manuals, assignments, and assessments aligned with course outcomes.
- • Evaluate and grade exams, lab reports, projects, and other coursework using clear rubrics.
- • Compile, administer, proctor, and grade examinations, including makeup assessments.
- • Supervise laboratory sections and enforce safety, biosafety, and chemical hygiene protocols.
- • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress in the LMS.
- • Hold regular office hours and provide academic advising and mentoring.
- • Initiate and facilitate inclusive, discussion-based and active-learning activities.
- • Revise courses and curricula based on assessment data, student feedback, and best practices.
- • Select and requisition textbooks, lab supplies, specimens, and equipment.
- • Coordinate with lab prep staff and supervise teaching assistants or peer mentors.
- • Keep current with developments in biology and evidence-based pedagogy through reading and professional development.
- • Integrate technology and learning platforms for in-person, hybrid, and online instruction.
- • Design and assess measurable learning outcomes and report results for program assessment and accreditation.
- • Advise students on academic pathways, research opportunities, and career options.
- • Provide tutoring and extra help sessions for students who need additional support.
- • Organize course-related field trips and experiential learning activities.
- • Maintain, calibrate, and arrange repair of laboratory equipment and instructional models.
- • Collaborate with colleagues on course sequencing, lab scheduling, and curriculum alignment.
- • Serve on departmental or college committees and participate in faculty meetings.
- • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and registration events.
- • Contribute to internal or external proposals for teaching innovation, equipment, or curriculum grants.
- • Develop accessible course materials and implement inclusive teaching practices.
- • Create and manage online course sites, gradebooks, and communication in the LMS.
- • Engage in outreach with schools or community partners to promote biology education.
- • Review educational materials or manuscripts and provide peer feedback when appropriate.
