Description
Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, building an independent, externally funded research program, mentoring students, and contributing to departmental and university service.
- • Develop and deliver lectures and active-learning sessions in areas such as molecular biology, ecology, or physiology.
- • Design, supervise, and assess laboratory sections with emphasis on safety and technique.
- • Create syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and lab manuals aligned with learning outcomes.
- • Evaluate and grade coursework, labs, exams, and research papers.
- • Create, administer, and analyze formative and summative assessments.
- • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and compliance records.
- • Hold regular office hours to advise and assist students.
- • Advise undergraduates and graduate students on curricula, research opportunities, and careers.
- • Mentor undergraduate and graduate research trainees and teaching assistants.
- • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula and course materials with colleagues.
- • Select textbooks, software, reagents, and lab equipment; manage teaching and research supplies.
- • Conduct independent research, analyze data, and publish in peer-reviewed outlets.
- • Develop a sustainable, externally funded research program; write grant proposals.
- • Supervise lab operations, including protocol development, safety training, and compliance (IACUC/IRB/IBC).
- • Collaborate on interdisciplinary teaching and research initiatives.
- • Present research at professional conferences and departmental seminars.
- • Keep current with advances in the field through literature and professional engagement.
- • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
- • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and retention initiatives.
- • Provide outreach and public engagement related to biological sciences.
- • Review manuscripts and grant proposals as a professional service.
- • Organize field experiences or community-partnered projects when relevant.
- • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, mentoring, and hiring practices.
- • Manage research lab resources, budgets, and equipment maintenance.
- • Coordinate and supervise undergraduate internships or practicum placements.
