Description
Patrol transit and railroad property with a trained police dog to protect facilities, employees, and passengers; conduct detection, tracking, and apprehension operations and support investigations and emergency response.
- • Patrol railroad yards, stations, trains, and transit facilities with a K-9 to deter crime and maintain order.
- • Conduct explosive, narcotics, and firearms detection sweeps of platforms, trains, luggage, and facilities.
- • Use the K-9 to track suspects or missing persons and perform area or article searches on transit property.
- • Apprehend or assist in the apprehension of trespassers or offenders using K-9 tactics in accordance with policy.
- • Screen and control access to secured areas; verify credentials and conduct K-9 perimeter checks.
- • Prepare detailed reports of K-9 deployments, searches, finds, bites, training, and outcomes.
- • Support investigations of theft, vandalism, or threats by deploying the K-9 for evidence searches and scent work.
- • Provide K-9 support and help secure scenes at derailments, fires, hazardous spills, or other emergencies.
- • Train, condition, and care for the assigned K-9; maintain certifications, readiness, and training records.
- • Coordinate and mentor security or patrol staff on safe K-9 operations and integrate canine response into plans.
- • Develop and deliver safety, threat-prevention, and K-9 awareness programs for employees and the public.
- • Enforce transit laws and regulations; conduct crowd control and high-visibility patrols with the K-9.
