Description
Assess and treat individuals with speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing needs via secure telepractice. Select and train in AAC and digital communication tools. Collaborate with caregivers and interdisciplinary teams remotely, and may conduct telepractice-related research.
- • Monitor client progress in virtual sessions and adjust teletherapy plans.
- • Administer remote speech and language evaluations and hearing screenings using validated digital tools.
- • Develop and implement evidence-based teletherapy for stuttering, language delays, voice, fluency, and swallowing support with team input.
- • Teach communication strategies (e.g., voice care, intelligibility, compensatory techniques) via live video.
- • Coach clients and caregivers in articulatory placement and breath support exercises appropriate for telepractice.
- • Create digital home exercise programs and practice activities for carryover.
- • Consult with educators, caregivers, and medical staff on communication strategies and telepractice supports.
- • Select, program, and train users on AAC devices and communication apps used remotely.
- • Lead engaging virtual lessons and therapeutic games targeting speech and language goals.
- • Communicate effectively with clients using AAC or other alternative access methods online.
- • Provide communication instruction to dialect speakers or clients with limited English proficiency via teletherapy.
- • Use video platforms, screen sharing, and specialized software to assess and support communication needs.
- • Conduct or contribute to telepractice research and share findings to improve remote care.
- • Interpret assessment data, case history, and caregiver/teacher input to diagnose and plan remote treatment.
- • Maintain accurate electronic documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, telehealth consent, billing, and discharge.
- • Deliver virtual individual or group sessions for school-based goals in speech, language, or swallowing.
- • Participate in and document virtual IEP, RTI/MTSS, in-service, or intervention team meetings.
- • Handle scheduling, digital lesson plans, and case management; coordinate teletherapy logistics and tech checks.
- • Educate clients and families on home carryover and optimizing the teletherapy environment.
- • Attend online trainings and conferences to stay current on telepractice standards and technologies.
- • Collaborate with and, when appropriate, supervise remote assistants, students, or clinical fellows.
- • Refer and coordinate with local medical or educational providers when in-person services are indicated.
- • Ensure compliance with HIPAA/FERPA, payer policies, and multi-state licensure rules for telepractice.
