Description
Hand-weave textiles and decorative items on looms, interlacing yarns to create fabrics, rugs, or tapestries; set up looms, select fibers and patterns, monitor quality, and finish pieces.
- • Hand-weave textiles such as fabrics, rugs, and tapestries on looms.
- • Trim loose threads, fringes, and edges; finish selvedges.
- • Select yarns and fibers for color, texture, and strength; wind warps, bobbins, and shuttles.
- • Read and plan weave drafts and patterns, including sett, repeats, and thread counts.
- • Warp the loom: measure, beam, thread heddles and reed, and tie on.
- • Block and press woven pieces to smooth surfaces and set shape.
- • Monitor tension, pick count, and alignment to maintain consistent width and pattern.
- • Apply techniques such as plain weave, twill, tapestry, leno, brocade, and supplementary weft.
- • Add decorative finishes including fringe, hemstitching, inlay, or embroidery.
- • Repair broken warp or weft threads; tie knots and splice joins invisibly.
- • Measure and customize dimensions to project or client specifications; sample and adjust as needed.
