Description
Hand-finishes fabricated items by sewing, trimming, pressing, and applying closures and decorative details to specifications. Uses needle and thread and hand tools to refine seams, hems, and edges for quality appearance and durability.
- • Hand-finish seams, hems, and edges on garments and other items.
- • Trim excess threads and grade or notch seams with scissors or knives.
- • Select and match threads, cords, and trimmings; thread needles.
- • Measure, mark, and align parts, fasteners, and trims to specifications.
- • Fold, drape, and secure materials for hemming and finishing.
- • Press and steam seams and finished areas with irons and hand tools.
- • Sew buttonholes and attach buttons, hooks, snaps, and labels by hand.
- • Apply decorative stitching, topstitching, and embroidery as required.
- • Bind, tape, or overcast raw edges to prevent fraying.
- • Inspect finish quality and reinforce or rework weak areas.
- • Fit garments for final adjustments and hand-finish alterations.
