Description
Operate and maintain terminal tank farm storage and transfer systems, using pumps, valves, and manifolds to safely receive, store, blend, and dispatch petroleum products and chemicals.
- • Circulate and blend tanks to achieve target properties and uniformity.
- • Perform field tests for density/API gravity, temperature, and water content, and escalate off-spec results.
- • Monitor tank levels, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates via ATG/SCADA and field rounds; inspect seals, valves, and secondary containment; report alarms or abnormalities.
- • Record receipts, shipments, inventories, tank gauges, and operating times in logs and terminal management systems.
- • Coordinate transfers with the control room, pipeline schedulers, and dock, rail, and truck loading crews via radio or phone.
- • Perform manual tank gauging, temperature and water measurements, and verify automatic gauging accuracy.
- • Line up manifolds, open and close valves, and start and stop pumps to initiate, regulate, and terminate product movements.
- • Plan tank and line usage based on capacities, compatibilities, and schedules, managing segregations and slops.
- • Execute written transfer orders and schedules, confirming products, volumes, destinations, and quality requirements.
- • Conduct routine equipment care, including lubricating pumps, tightening packing, cleaning strainers, and assisting with lockout/tagout for maintenance.
- • Draw and label tank and line samples per procedures, maintain chain of custody, and deliver to the laboratory.
- • Connect and disconnect hoses and loading arms at tanks, racks, and docks; pressure test, drain, and cap or blank lines.
- • Operate and monitor auxiliary systems such as vapor recovery, nitrogen blanketing, mixers, heat tracing, overfill prevention/ESD, and foam/firewater systems.
- • Add dyes, additives, and inhibitors; perform water draw-offs and interface cuts to meet product specifications.
