Description
Handle acceptance, rating, processing, and dispatch of parcels at USPS retail counters and operations. Receive packages, verify eligibility and packaging, compute and collect postage, apply labels and extra services, scan and track items, sort and prepare containers, and resolve parcel delivery issues. Includes clerks employed by USPS contractors.
- • Keep cash drawers organized; record and balance daily parcel sales and fees.
- • Weigh and measure parcels, calculate postage by zone and dimensional weight, and affix labels.
- • Verify parcels meet size, weight, packaging, and hazardous materials regulations.
- • Sell and collect payment for parcel services, supplies, insurance, COD, and signature options.
- • Print and apply shipping labels, barcodes, and customs forms; obtain required signatures.
- • Add eligible extra services (insurance, signature, Registered Mail) and issue receipts and tracking numbers.
- • Check prepaid and return parcels; scan for acceptance and compliance.
- • Answer questions about parcel rates, delivery standards, tracking, and prohibited items.
- • Complete forms and electronic entries for parcel intercepts, address corrections, and special handling.
- • Assist customers with claims for lost, delayed, or damaged parcels and process indemnity.
- • Sort incoming and outgoing parcels by route and destination using scanners and sorting equipment.
- • Load, unload, and transport parcel containers, sacks, and hampers between workstations.
- • Stage undeliverable or held parcels; retrieve for customer pickup, obtain signatures, and document releases.
- • Resolve parcel delivery complaints and make referrals for investigation as needed.
- • Process parcels through POS and labeling equipment; scan and apply postage.
- • Maintain chain-of-custody and secure storage for accountable and high-value parcels.
- • Feed parcels into scanning devices and ensure accurate scan events at each handoff.
- • Order and stock shipping boxes, tape, labels, and other retail supplies.
- • Follow safe lifting practices and facility safety procedures when handling heavy parcels.
