Description
Process and fulfill customer mail and e-commerce orders for a retailer or distribution center. Receive and verify orders, enter data, pick, pack, and ship merchandise; compute shipping and charges; prepare invoices and labels; handle payments and returns; track shipments; and provide customer support while maintaining accurate records and regulatory compliance.
- • Maintain inventory of shipping supplies and reorder as needed.
- • Reconcile cash drawers and balance daily sales, refunds, and deposits.
- • Enter and verify customer orders received by mail, phone, or online.
- • Pick items from inventory and prepare packing slips and invoices.
- • Weigh packages, select carriers and service levels, compute shipping costs, and print and apply labels.
- • Inspect items and packaging for accuracy, damage, and shipping compliance.
- • Add tracking, signature confirmation, or insurance per order instructions.
- • Process payments by cash, card, check, or online gateway and issue receipts.
- • Answer customer questions about products, order status, shipping rates, and delivery times.
- • Update customer profiles, addresses, and special instructions in the order system.
- • Ensure shipments comply with carrier rules and regulatory requirements, including hazmat and customs for international orders.
- • Sort and stage outgoing shipments by carrier, destination, and pickup time, and scan to update status.
- • Receive returns and undeliverable packages, document disposition, and restock as appropriate.
- • Assist customers with returns, exchanges, and claims for lost or damaged shipments.
- • Investigate and respond to delivery problems, documenting issues and escalating to carriers when necessary.
- • Generate manifests and schedule carrier pickups, maintaining shipping logs.
- • Move orders between entry, picking, packing, and shipping stations safely.
- • Process money orders or checks, verify funds, and post to customer accounts.
- • Prepare daily reports on orders processed, payments, and shipments.
